I’m not one to promote beauty rules. I once had a client that liked to put silver eyeliner in her brows. If it makes you happy, who am I to knock it? That being said, there are some guidelines or makeup tips that can help accentuate your natural beauty. If you are over 50 years-old or you just feel like you are starting to see signs of aging that you aren’t happy with, here are your essentials for achieving a youthful makeup look.

Invest in your skincare It doesn’t have to be expensive but do invest in products that will give you the perfect canvas for makeup. Taking the time to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin will also help you feel great when you aren’t wearing makeup. Help speed up your cell renewal by using a gentle chemical exfoliant a few times a week like Dermalogica’s Daily Superfoliant or the M61 PowerGlow Peel Pads. Restore skin nightly with a rich moisturizer like Fresh’s Creme Ancienne or the healing algae of the La Mer Creme.
Fill in your brows Your brows frame your face. You can do an painless mini-face lift by simply defining and filling them in. A fuller brow gives a more youthful appearance so try Trish McEvoy’s Brow Mascara for adding fiber like hairs. To create definition, simentry and a perky arch, I recommend Wander Beauty’s Micro Brow pencil. Be sure to choose a light shade as we still want it to look natural.
Try A New Eyeliner Technique Tightline is an eyeliner technique where the upper lashes are lined from underneath – not on the eyelid. The result is a very thin line that lift the eye. The easiest way to achieve this is by positioning your head in what I call “snob pose” – chin up and your eyes are facing down into a mirror. Press your finger gently into your eyeball and the lashes will flip up. Be sure to use a soft but long wearing pencil like ByTerry’s Kohl Eyeliner pencil or Laura Mercier’s Cake Eyeliners for tightlining.

Even and Glow Up Your Skin Look for complexion products that are a lighter weight so it won’t accentuate any natural texture on the skin. Don’t be afraid of products that have a little shine or pearl in them too. The light reflection will help give a youthful glow. Try Bobbi Brown’s Intensive Skin Serum Foundation (it has a bonus feature of SPF 40) and ByTerry’s Densiliss Concealer which has skincare to help brighten and smooth the delicate under eye area.

Press Your Powder After you’ve evened out your complexion add dimension and warmth back into the skin with powdered bronzers and blushes. I highly recommend NARS’s Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer and Charlotte Tilbury’s Cheek To Chic duo blushes. Again to prevent adding unwanted texture, use a finely milled powder with a fluffy brush and press a tiny bit of these powders into the skin rolling the brush as you go. After your happy with the look you can dust away any excess with a dry blush brush.

The result of these 5 beauty steps should be a clean and polished look that lets you shine like the star that you are!
