In my 12 years as a wedding makeup artist, I’ve picked up some tips on how brides can stay stress free, organized and on time the morning of your wedding. Follow this guide for a breezy and fun wedding day preparation.
1-DO arrive to your “getting ready” location 15 minutes early
If you and your bridal party are getting ready at a hotel or your event space, arrive early so you have time to set out some snacks, get cozy and put on a robe while your glam team also sets up.
Everyone loves a little pre-wedding champagne but we highly recommend including some light food as well as herbal teas like peppermint for upset stomachs and chamomile to calm the jitters.
2-DON’T stress over hair and makeup appointment times
Connect your hair stylist and makeup artist in advance of your wedding day so both parties can come up with a game plan. It will flow best to take whomever is ready first and rotate the group between hair and makeup instead of taking specific people at specific time. For example a good timeline should look like this:
2-DO ask all your brides maids and anyone else getting hair and makeup services to arrive at the same time.
Everyone arriving at the same time gives them the opportunity to say hi and catch up, change into robes, and grab a snack without delaying the schedule. It also creates a very fun environment for everyone to pregame!
3-DON’T wait to steam your dress
Steaming your dress will make you sweat. Whoever is designated with the task of steaming dresses should do so before their glam time.
4-DO let your maid of honor be in charge of your phone
As a pro makeup artist, I know to build in extra time into your appointment for the bride to say hi to guests stopping by or tackle any last minute arrangements. However, let your maid of honor be your secretary for the day funneling out any unnecessary interruptions.
5-DO allow time to get into your dress
Allow yourself 20 minutes or so after your glam is done to get your dress, jewelry, shoes etc. on and avoid rushing to get out the door.
Most important tip- cherish every moment!
