Removing your makeup is very, very important. Most cleansers will do the trick but I’ve found doing a double cleanse has really helped keep my skin clear from breakouts. First, I use an oil to break down the makeup. I like the Darphin Cleansing Balm but if you are more oily you can try a micellar water. Then, I follow it up with a gentle cleanser like The Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel or La Mer Cleansing Foam. Another plus to using a makeup removing product is it ensures you completely remove long wear products like eyeliner and mascara.
A story recently went viral about a woman living in Sydney, Australia who hadn’t removed her mascara in 25 years! The 50 year-old woman named Theresa Lynch, told The Daily Mail, “I had fallen into a bad habit of wearing a lot of makeup and not washing it off. I should never have let it get this far.” The results of not removing her makeup are depicted in these gruesome photos.
WARNING- they are pretty gross.
Lynch’s eye lids were red and swollen and her eyes had become glossed over. The residue mascara was now embedded into her inner eyelids. The calluses they formed inhibited her sight and could have left her blind!
